Jinkie Favorites
Some new, some old - but all good,
in our opinion. Here's a list of our favorite titles!
Love
Hina Love Hina the television series is based on the popular manga with the same name. Now, you may have heard that this series is bad (at least compared to the manga), but I beg to differ. While it's obvious (when you watch the series) that it is somewhat based on plots from the manga, it is it's own new series. I like it better this way. After falling into a slump after reading the fourteen volume set of Love Hina, watching this series made me smile for days. I recommend buying and reading the manga series first before watching the anime series, it makes you enjoy it more. There are several funny moments that make this series great. One of my favorite episodes is the eight (I believe) where Motoko's fantasy includes a sequence where Shinobu spoofs.... well I won't spoil it. I could ramble for days about the series, but first let me give a brief description. It's simply about a big loser, Urashima Keitaro, who wants to get into Tokyo University (the best university in Japan, apparently). He has failed the entrance exams twice before and has another one coming up soon. Normal people would have given up on the second failing, but Keitaro made a promise fifteen years ago to a girl he can barely remember. This is when he get's word from his grandmother and as he visits her, he get's word that he is the new manager of the Hinata Inn. One problem, it's an all-girls dormitory. While Keitaro seems perverted at times, he usually tries to be a honest and valliant character. His heart is always in the right place and despite his constant beatings and abuse (physical and mental) from the girls, he stays with a smile and tries to comfort them when they're in need. One girl he cares about especially, Naru. She is a sweet, but dangerous woman, who constantly beats him for his "accidents". She also wants to go to Tokyo University due to a promise she made years ago. Could she be the girl Keitaro made a promise with? You'll have to watch to find out. This is one of my favorite series and being so, I felt obligated to write a review and recommend it to people who either have doubts or have just not seen it yet. Again, read the manga's first, it will benefit you greatly to compare and contrast each story.

GTO
(Great Teacher Onizuka) From the popular Japanese comic comes
the animation of GTO. Similar to many other Japanese animation,
this story emphasizes the mind set of high school students and the
perversion of Japanese society. However, GTO also exposed the lack
of trust between grown-ups and kids in the society, the abuses of
the weak in school, and the corruption within the educational system
to the extreme. Now, it is the fantasy that perhaps one man named
Onizuka could change everything. Imagine the combination of the
heart of a rebel, mind set of a perverted kid, strength of Godzilla,
and the dedication to being the teacher for life - that's Onizuka.
Even though this story has the same lead, It has achieved tremendous
recognition for its outstanding
story, voice acting, graphics, and music. A must watch.

Initial
D TV Series Initial D is one of those anime series
that is unforgettable after seeing it for the first time. From First
Stage to Third Stage, every episode is heart gripping while it puts
you on the racing seat. Knowing that Takumi will take the AE86 Trueno
(equivalent to the Toyota Corolla) to its limits, I held my breath
as he battles modern day cars such as the RX-7, Lancer Evolution,
Honda Civic as well as another 86! Some would say suuping up cars
is all about the power of the engine, and the amount of money that
you spend. But in Initial D it's not all about the car, but about
the driver and the skills involved. This anime uses 2D and 3D animation
so you can see the original comic scenes as well as driving scenes
that you could only imagine while reading the comic book.

Naruto
Part 2 With a perfect blend of humor and suspense,
Naruto definitely ranks highly in my favorite anime list. First
of all, there aren’t many impressive anime ninja series that
I enjoy watching, so when I started to watch Naruto, I was hoping
that this would be the one – good call!! As the story unravels,
I felt as if I could relate to all the characters – Sakura’s
multi-personality, Sasuke’s stubbornness, and of course Naruto’s
determination to become the best ninja even after the resentment
of everyone. Also, there isn’t a lot of series that could
portray the ancient times in mix of modern style. FYI, I actually
started to read the comic books after watching this anime and in
comparison, I loved it even more for the voices, music, and actual
movements that could not be expressed in the comic books. Overall,
it is a remarkable anime that could possibly start the next wave
of ninja anime trend.
